Later, he said: “It wasn’t the prettiest game, it was physical, but the result was all that mattered for us today and we’re glad to get this game out of the way,” he said.
“Discipline cost us, we kept turning over the ball but fair play to the guys we stuck at it. We’d do something good, then cough up the ball.
“Scotland were ferocious at the breakdown, and physical all game.
“There’s a few sore bodies out there today but we’re just glad to get the result, so we’ll enjoy tonight and we’ll start preparing for next week on Monday.
“We’ve only had two weeks together, so there’s still such much to improve on and work on come Monday.
“There’s a lot to work on but we’re looking forward to the Italy game.”
